An Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (also called an EGD) is a procedure where a thin, flexible tube with a camera is passed through your mouth to examine your esophagus, stomach, and the first part of your small intestine (duodenum). It is used to diagnose ulcers, acid reflux, inflammation, and abnormal growths.

You must not eat or drink anything, including water, for at least 8 hours prior to your upper endoscopy. This ensures your stomach is completely empty, which allows the doctor to clearly see the tissue lining and prevents safety complications (like aspiration) under sedation.

A thorough bowel cleanse (laxative prep) is critical. It clears all waste from the large intestine. If the colon is not completely clean, the camera cannot inspect the lining properly, which means the doctor could miss small precancerous polyps. In poor-prep cases, the procedure may need to be repeated.

Most patients return to normal activities, including work, the day after a colonoscopy. However, if large polyps were removed, your doctor may advise you to avoid strenuous lifting, heavy exercise, or taking blood thinners for up to 7 to 10 days to minimize bleeding risks.

A FibroScan is a non-invasive, painless ultrasound-based test that measures liver stiffness (fibrosis) and fat accumulation (steatosis). It takes less than 10 minutes in our clinic, requires no needles, and can accurately replace traditional surgical liver biopsies.

Yes. Early-stage fatty liver (simple steatosis) is fully reversible. The liver is highly resilient and responds rapidly to lifestyle modifications. Reversal is achieved through a 7% to 10% gradual weight loss, eating a low-glycemic Mediterranean diet, and exercising regularly.
